A Guideline for saving lives

As we approach the World Prematurity Day in November 2015, let us acknowledge the great effort of dedicated people who were behind the new WHO guidance on interventions for pregnant women in whom preterm birth is imminent and for care of preterm neonates to improve preterm birth outcomes.

This guideline was jointly developed by the Department of Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health and the Department of Reproductive Health and Research at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, who oversaw systematic searches, synthesis, and assessment of the evidence.

It is our ethical mandate at the ECEBM to disseminate the Key Messages from the WHO’s 2015 Global Recommendations to all stakeholders in Egypt including policy makers, caregivers and patients.

Furthermore, as part of our academic activities and responsibilities, ECEBM is organizing a free plenary lecture to discuss the methodology of this new guidance. It is critical for health-care professionals,  managers of maternal and child health programs and policy-makers in all settings, to understand the basis of the recommendations.

Venue: Training and Education Enhancement Center, Ain Shams University Hospitals
